Apprenticeships: Danny Manchester
Danny Manchester has recently completed his apprenticeship programme with us and has been offered a full time position as a 1st Line Service Desk Analyst. Let's hear more...
How did you find out about the opportunity?
I first found out about this opportunity when looking around for an apprenticeship with an IT company. I applied through a company called Baltic Apprenticeships who were very helpful with the application process.
How did you find completing your apprenticeship with Giacom?
Completing my apprenticeship with Giacom was great. My managers always ensured that I had the time out that I needed in order to complete my assignments.
What skills did you learn throughout your apprenticeship?
Throughout my apprenticeship, l learnt lots of new skills that are now invaluable to my job role, such as learning technical skills including working with both software and hardware. I’ve also learnt a lot more about applying good customer service to my role.
What did you enjoy most about doing your apprenticeship with Giacom?
While doing my apprenticeship, I enjoyed learning new technical skills that I never thought I would get the chance to learn. I’ve also enjoyed the exam weeks hosted by Baltic Apprenticeships which included 4 days of training and then an exam on the Friday.
Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others?
I’d certainly recommend an apprenticeship to anyone. To me, the most important part of an apprenticeship is to be able to learn and earn at the same times, and this opportunity made that possible
How are you finding working with Giacom now as a full time member of staff?
Working with Giacom now as a full-time employee is actually very similar to when I was an apprentice. While on my apprenticeship I was learning skills which I was able to transfer to my position now.
"Each member of our team contributes directly to the growth and success of Giacom. There is nothing more exciting to me than providing a platform from which your career can soar."
Mike Wardell, CEO
Case study: Dan Warelow
Introducing Dan Warelow, a Product Manager here at Giacom, who has been with us for 10 years.
Dan is key to developing new and existing product sets. His role includes conducting market research; vendor on-boarding and in life product management; generating product requirements; determining specifications, pricing, and time-integrated plans for product introduction.
Dan’s our longest serving team member, recently celebrating his ten-year work anniversary. We asked him a few questions to give you an insight into life at Giacom...
10 years is a long time, what is it you love about working at Giacom?
Couple of things really. I’ve had a few different roles within the business which keeps it fresh, exciting and rewarding. I also work alongside amazing people who’ve helped me develop my career and inspired me along the way.
How much has Giacom changed over the last 10 years?
Honestly? too much to describe. When I joined it was just a handful of people working every hour to offer a handful of services to a handful of customers, now we’re approaching 100 staff (some have moved from other countries to work for us), and offer a full marketplace of services to thousands of customers. Some things haven’t changed though, throughout my 10 years I’ve been surrounded by great colleagues.
What’s one thing that surprised you about working at Giacom?
Easy – The camaraderie – When I left the military, I didn’t think I would see this again in ‘civvy street’ but I can honestly say that without the people I have had the pleasure of working alongside in the last 10 years I simply wouldn’t be where I am.
What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
At company level being one of the first companies to achieve Microsoft CSP Indirect provider status (Previously Tier 2) – if there was one defining moment in my career at Giacom it’s got to be that. On an individual basis it has to be my Product launches – We work so hard in the build up to launch that to finally see it live is a massive buzz.
What do you love the most about your role at Giacom?
Being part of a team that operates at the heart for the company, being in a position to listen to/help our customers and drive a customer focused product roadmap is really rewarding.
Do you enjoy the Giacom culture?
Very much so, the culture is what’s kept me here for so long. One of our company values is to make Giacom a great place to work, whether this is simply taking an interest in you as a person, personal development programs, the monthly social events (like bowling or the more recent Virtual beer tasting during the recent lockdown), sponsoring charities close to its employees hearts or working in the local community in partnership with the likes of my boyhood and beloved Club Hull City.
For a better workplace
We're proud to be recognised as an organisation that cares about doing things right, that values its people and that understands the importance of a truly engaged workforce.
Giacom has once again been awarded the 'A One to Watch' status, achieving a BCI score of over 600, and represents 'Good' levels of Workplace Engagement. We have also made it into the Top 75 companies to work for in Yorkshire.

Workplace Award

We are happy to win The Workplace Award at the Comms Business Channel Awards 2021.
These awards recognise the efforts of companies as a whole. Comms Business believes that entire organisations deserve credit for their contributions outside of commercial success and innovation.
Any great business will recognise the value of its employees. This award will recognise those businesses who are going above and beyond for their staff. This may include staff reward systems, team building, small perks, or could be a fundamental ‘people-first’ philosophy. Comms Business wants to support those businesses that genuinely look after their staff.
